Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (ESV)
We are continuing with our current series
“He Brought Us Out to Bring Us In.” Here
in Deuteronomy, Moses is exhorting the
Israelites that “The Lord our God, the Lord
is one,” meaning that the Lord is “The
Unique” (Jewish Study Bible). There is
none like Him!
Many times, we don’t walk in complete
abandonment to God because we try to
compare or understand God’s love based
on human philosophy or personal
experience and that falls short every time.
But, Exodus 15:11 begs the question,
“Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods?” This
scripture is telling us that no one and
nothing will adequately reveal to us who
God is – this is only done through the Holy
Today, we will learn of God’s great love for
us – completely unique to any other love.
We will discover that 1 John 4:19 is true,
“We love because he first loved us.”
• Deuteronomy 6:5 (ESV)
• Matthew 22:34-40 (ESV)
• 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (NIV)
One of the major things that sets us apart
from all other religions or beliefs is the
love of God. He loves us so that we will
love Him back, then we will be able to
love others. Love is the key; it is the
Our loving God drives the way we live.
Both loving and living are meant to be
God-centered. His love is designed to
keep going “through and through”
(1 Thessalonians) our entire being.

God loves His people. Period. Through
confessing that Jesus is Lord, we become
God’s people – His children. So, the same
love that is described in Deuteronomy 7
that He has toward Israel, He now has
In Deuteronomy 7 there are three different
kinds of love mentioned:
1. Vs 7 – Hebrew word “hasaq” – Love that has
an unbreakable bond.
2. Vs. 8 – Hebrew word “ahab” – The “general”
love of a parent to a child.
3. Vs. 9 – Hebrew word “hesed” – A steadfast
love: faithful, loyal, devoted.
• Which definition of love makes you feel the most
connected to God? Why?
As we conclude, let’s seal this time of
learning about and discussing God’s
love with a possible connection
between Deuteronomy 6:7 and Psalm
139:1-6. Read both of those portions
The reason God calls us to... He’s thinking of us as we...

• Having learned of the truth of God’s love,
what are some mindsets or actions you
need to turn away from (repent of) in order
to receive His love?
• Take time this week to acknowledge God’s
love, repent of sinful thoughts or deeds,
and receive God’s love. Here is a sample
prayer to help you get started:
“God, you show me in your word and through
Jesus how much you love me. I confess I have
not received your love because... (confess your
thoughts or deeds and ask Him to forgive you)...
I receive your love afresh for me. Thank you for
your love. I love you Lord. In Jesus’ name.
